BANELÉ, the love child of our family.
We began as a small husband-and-wife team. Mr Banelé just has to try every banana bread he sees and absolutely loves it for the deep flavours of ripe banana and thick, heady fragrance that is his idea of a Proustian Madeleine. Mrs Banelé, however, always hated banana bread for being too floury and boring, never quite understanding the fuss about it.
Struggling to find something nutritious yet tempting enough for their children to eat regularly, she began baking and cooking extensively.
At that time, their daughter was obsessed with ladybugs and loved reading the book, “Ladybug Girl and Her Mama”, over and over again. In the book, Ladybug Girl and Mama spend a special day together and pick up a few things at the grocery store.
“Let’s bake banana bread today,” suggested Ladybug Girl.
That began a slippery obsession to make a version of their own. After many trials, they couldn’t be more proud to share their very own, homegrown baby - Banelé; their family’s favourite snack that is satisfyingly complex, feels just sinful enough for an adult treat while being packed with nutrition for the little ones.
